There are a few things you should do before you sell your house. One of those is making sure your home is thoroughly cleaned, and we’re not just talking about your walls, ceilings and carpets! There are other areas that people tend to overlook. Here are 4 areas in your Houston home you might be overlooking!
The garbage disposal is a kitchen appliance many of us tend to use a lot, yet avoid like the plague because we have an irrational fear of losing a finger. Well, before you sell your house, you should overcome your fear and thoroughly clean it. All the junk we throw down there leaves residue and bacteria that can eventually accumulate and cause…distinct smells. Pour dishwasher soap and water down the drain and run the disposal once a day. If this isn’t enough and your garbage disposal still smells, pour baking soda and vinegar into the drain and immediately seal it. Let it sit, give it a quick rinse, and go back to using it regularly.
If you are thinking of selling your house with a washer and dryer included, you need to make sure they work properly. If you leave wet or damp clothing in the washer for a long time before putting it in the dryer, chances are mildew will develop. One of the easiest ways to clean a washing machine is to fill it with hot water and a cup of detergent and run a complete wash cycle. After you’ve done that, run another cycle with hot water (no detergent) to rinse the washer.
If mildew is still a problem, cleaning the inside of the tub with vinegar will help get rid of mildew and any soap build-up. Before you sell your house, make sure the appliances you include work well so that they do not become something the buyer can use against you when negotiating the home’s price.
Just like with your washing machine, if your dishwasher isn’t clean, it will not do a good job. Just like we mentioned before, vinegar can help you clean this appliance as well! Find a container with enough space to fit the dishwasher’s arm, grate and filter and fill it up with warm water and two cups of vinegar, soak them in this vinegar water, and let them dry. Use this vinegar water to wipe down the inside of the dishwasher, then put all the parts back in and add two cups of vinegar to the bottom and run a light cycle. After the cycle is over, wipe down the inside and enjoy a freshly clean dishwasher!
Home Air Filter
You must replace your home air filter once a month. There are filters that allow you to do this every three months, but either way, its important to keep up with changing it regularly. The air filter in your HVAC system is what filters out all of the grime, pollution and allergens from the air in your home. If you want the air you breathe to stay clean, replacing your air filters as needed is a must.
