Summer is here and its time for you to get your home ready to entertain. Here are some tips on how to keep your home looking great and well maintained for when you have people over, such as your neighbors or out of town relatives!
A/C Tune Up
The most important summer home maintenance tip you need to follow is to have your air conditioning unit tuned up. The last thing you want is for your A/C to break down in the middle of the scorching summer! An A/C tune up includes the inspection of refrigerant levels. If your refrigerant levels are fine, your home should keep running cool and your electric bills won’t be as high. An A/C tune up also includes making sure your A/C fan is functioning well, the cleaning of coils and ensuring there are no potential fire hazards with faulty wiring.
Clean Your Gutters
Winter and fall can leave your gutters filled with leaves and other residue. Put on some gloves, get on a latter and take out all of the junk that has accumulated in your gutters over the last few months. After you have removed all of the junk that you can remove with your hands, use a garden hose to flush the gutters. On top of cleaning them, flushing your gutters, will let you know if you have any leaks. Check that your downspouts aren’t clogged by washing them out with the hose also. If you want to go the extra mile, you can cover your gutters with wire mesh to keep debris out.
Check Your Windows
Having windows that are damaged can cause cool air to be leaking out of your home. Having a leak that hasn’t been detected can cause your home not to cool fast enough thus you having to turn on the A/C too many times and having high electric bills. Also, make sure to check all sealants, inside and out and caulk any open areas. Checking your windows will help you keep your home cool and avoid spending too much money on expensive electrical bills.
Check Your Roof
Your roof should be inspected once a year. Make sure it hasn’t been damaged by rain or any extreme weather. It’s also good to keep your roof clean to avoid any water damage. It’s better to find a problem ahead of time and perhaps even lowering repair costs, rather than when it becomes a huge pricey problem.
Power Wash Outside
It is important to keep up with the appearance of the outside of your home. One of the easiest ways to do that is by power washing the outside walls of your home. Power washing will help remove dirt, stains and mildew off the outside of your home. If you are thinking of painting the siding, this is important to do beforehand. Before you start to power wash, make sure any electrical outlets and plants are covered and make sure to avoid damaging any windows, siding or parts of your home that you’re simply trying to clean.
Extra Lawn Care
Hot summers, like the ones we have in Texas, can be detrimental to your lawn. Make sure to water your plants and keep up with your gardening. The grass also tends to grow faster in the summer so keeping up with the mowing of your lawn is very important. Summer tends to be the time when you might spend the most time outside your home, as well as your neighbors, so you want your (front and back) to give a good impression.
Now that you know what you need to do to keep your home looking well maintained this summer, get off your computer, go outside and get started!
